The History of Earth Day

From:  APRIL 22, 2014
Ever wonder when and how Earth Day began? It wasn’t so long ago. The first Earth Day took place in April of 1970. Former Senator Nelson created Earth Day as a political maneuver to increase the public’s awareness of the environmental degradation that was a regular occurrence in the United States. The first Earth Day was accompanied by large public protests that helped awaken the public to the dangers of pollution. The move also helped force Congress to create the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Yes, the EPA is not even 50 years old.

We’ve done good work in the past decades, but there’s much more to be done. Earth Day was created because the public spoke out, and we need to keep speaking up for our Earth. Do one thing for our home this Earth Day and tell us about it here.
